Careful, extensive research was the key to achieving a genuine Nantucket aesthetic. Period details and forms were thoughtfully considered for their authenticity, while exterior materials were consciously selected for durability and minimal maintenance. Dimensional pre-finished cement fiber shingles, PVC trim, a composite balcony rail system, meticulous waterproofing details, and roll-down storm shutters will ensure preservation of the home’s charm and stability in a harsh marine environment.

A sensitive approach to detail was also carried through to the interior.  Authentic window trim and cabinetry details remain true to the roots of Nantucket architecture. The design team further enriched the interior with built-in cabinetry throughout, an elegant fireplace mantel and surround, stained wood ceiling beams, and a stately wood guardrail.  The design features many custom considerations including a state of the art whole house audio/video system, prescribed solutions for future accessible renovations, and truly personalized pantry shelving and storage.

The architect team successfully navigated the challenges of the Planning and Permitting process through multiple local, county and state governing bodies in order to realize the full potential of the site and the aspiration of the client’s wishes.
