The challenge of this hillside property was to satisfy the Owner’s request for a two-story master suite and capture views throughout the extensive addition and remodel. The property was subject to the City of Ventura’s Hillside Height Ordinance, and a variance was successfully obtained from the Planning Commission for the addition.

The bow window, the signature design element, opens the family room, and master bedroom above, to spectacular views. The tall sheets of butt-glazed panels create gleaming facets which accentuate the curved window. The pediment forms a gracious curve against the sky. Careful consideration was given to view site lines from key areas in the house; especially from the kitchen, the heart of this home.

The house is eminently energy efficient and comfortable to live in. The southern exposure provides warm light, while the veranda limits glare. The ample ventilation keeps the house fresh and cool. The limestone flooring absorbs the winter sun for evening warmth.
